FamilySafe Movies
FamilySafe Movies is a relatively new player in the edited movie industry, but a clean website and a family-friendly rental process should help FamilySafe get off the ground quickly. FamilySafe is also the first provider to expand outside the U.S. to service Canada.
"We wanted to give families across North America better movie editing, better customer service, and more parental control," states Rob Anderson of FamilySafe.
The FamilySafe rental process is similar in form to the other major providers, with a few small exceptions. Each movie in the FamilySafe library is labeled in two ways. First, a traditional star rating can be given by account holders after viewing, from one to five stars. In addition, each movie is given a FamilySafe Rating. This rating can be one of the following four options:
These ratings help to clearly identify to parents the content of each movie.
The editing techniques of FamilySafe are a bit different than some of its competitors, with one major distinction. FamilySafe has chosen not to drop audio channels in the case of a curse word, choosing instead to cut out the entire dialogue. This can have advantages and disadvantages, of course. One the one hand, what good is it to drop audio if you can clearly see what the actor or actress is saying. On the other hand, there are some instances where important dialogue is missed completely. Nevertheless, I enjoyed watching both movies I received from FamilySafe, and I don't believe the plot was lost in either one.
FamilySafe offers three levels of subscription beyond the 15-day free trial, ranging from $20 - $33 per month. Depending on the subscription level, account holders can have from two to five movies out at a time.
Edited movies can be purchased directly from FamilySafe as well. Up to three purchase options are given for each movie. A previously viewed copy of an edited movie may be purcahsed, with prices starting at $14.97. You may also purchase an edited copy of a movie you currently own, starting at $14.97. Finally, new edited movies may be purcahsed with prices starting as low as $29.97.
All in all, I believe FamilySafe Movies is able to provide a good selection of family edited movies for your enjoyment. Above all, FamilySafe strives to provide fantastic customer service for each of its account holders. "Our small 4-person owner/management group handle all customer service related issues. That means personal contact with those at the top," say Anderson.
