Family Edited DVDs

Family Edited DVDs, like so many of the other providers in the edited movie industry, began with one family disapproving of the degradation of the MPAA movie rating system. (Family Edited DVDs agrees with the author that the release of Titanic marked a turning point for the MPAA.) "We did a quick analysis of MPAA rating system and the content of movies and realized that there really wasn't much difference between PG-13 and R", states the owner.

Family Edited DVDs operates in a similar manner to Cleanfilms and CleanFlicks. Members add movies to an online queue and movies ship back and forth. Family Edited DVDs sets itself apart, however, with lower subscription prices than any of its competitors. Plans range between $14.95 from two movies at a time to $34.95 for six movies out. In comparison, Cleanfilms, Cleanflicks and Flick's Club all charge $19.95 for a two-movie subscription plan.

While still a new company, Family Edited DVDs does not have the volume of the larger providers quite yet. Currently, subscribers can choose from an online library of over 400 movie titles, with new titles added regularly.

Editing quality was acceptable for both movies I watched, I, Robot and Black Hawk Down. The latter is obviously a violent movie by nature and even in its edited form would not be suitable for children. As Family Edited DVDs does not have a family rating guide, I encourage parents to research a movie's content, even before renting an edited copy.

Family Edited DVDs offers edited movies for rent as well as purchase. It is important to note that every movie for sale is offered at the assumption of previous ownership. Under current copyright laws, if you purchase an edited movie from Family Edited DVDs, you must already own an original copy.

Overall, Family Edited DVDs provides another reasonable alternative for concerned parents and viewers.
