Flick's Club

Flick's Club is the latest to join the edited movie bandwagon. The Utah-based company, led by Wade Olsen, believes offering edited movies allows consumers a viable alternative in entertainment choices.

"You can still go to any other place and get the rated 'R' version if you want; we're just giving people two options instead of one," states Olsen.

Though relatively new to the online-rental market, Flick's Club totes an impressively large stock of DVDs and VHS movies to rent or buy, with almost 600 at time of writing. Some people believe this is evidence of the fact that Flick's Club offers more "borderline" movies than its competitors. Let it be known, movies like From Hell and The Blair Witch Project are exclusively available for rent from Flick's Club. The editing quality on these movies was not tested.

While I skipped out on the edited horror movies, the edited films I did view were decent. I say decent, not great, because the editing job left a little to be desired. For example, while all the "major" curse words were cut, Flick's Club did leave in a few colorful phrases that you might not want your family hearing. Also, for much of the movie that I viewed, the sound was just a bit behind the video. The overall experience was still far better than viewing the movie unedited, but companies like CleanFilms and CleanFlicks are raising the bar as far as editing quality. To the credit of Flick's Club, the main menu and 5.1 sound remained intact.

While the website could stand a make-over, the online rental process is relatively simple. Here's a breakdown of what Flick's Club offers:

Basic Membership - One movie out at a time, $12.99/month.

Silver Membership - Two movies out at a time, $19.99/month.

Gold Membership - Three movies out at a time, $24.99/month.

Platinum Membership - Five movies out at a time, $29.99/month.
