CleanFilms
For many years, CleanFilms was one of the two major players in the edited movie industry. CleanFilms provided edited DVDs for sale and rental through its website. In its formative years, Cleanfilms' inventory was comprised of movies edited by Family Flix. Before long, CleanFilms began to grow and quickly developed its own edited techniques and standards.
CleanFilms was a named plaintiff in the case decided by Judge Richard Matsch in July of 2006. As of August 31, 2006, CleanFilms no longer provides edited videos and has closed its doors. The following was taken from the CleanFilms website:
"To all our loyal members and especially the many hundreds of you who have sent us letters of support, we thank you for allowing us to bless your homes with family friendly edited movies."
The following review is for reference purposes only, since the company is no longer providing edited movies.
Being a part
of Cleanfilms is very affordable. I don't spend any more money
renting clean movies than I did renting movies from the movie
store. I also don't have to worry about late fees and 24 hour
due dates. Here's a rundown on how cleanfilms.com works:
1) Sign up to become a Cleanfilms member.
2) Choose which rental plan suits your needs and budget best.
Cleanfilms currently offers five levels of membership
ranging from $20/month to $58/month. The level of membership you
choose determines how many DVDs you may have out at the same time,
from as few as 2 to as many as 7.
3) Add as many DVDs as you like to your rental queue.
Your queue is your list of movies you would like to rent.
You may add and subtract movies from your queue as you wish. You
may also set the priority, or order, of the movies so you can
determine which movie you receive next. You will always receive
the next available title from your rental queue, starting from
the top (priority 1) and going down until you reach your rental
limit (based on your membership level).
4) CleanFilms ships movie through USPS mail, and you should
receive your movie in 2-5 days.
Depending on your location, you should receive your movie
relatively quickly. The first time I rented a movie I expected
it to take 5 days and I was pleasantly surprised when it arrived
in 2! With quick delivery time like that, I was able to
rent one movie a week, which ended up being less than $3 per movie!
With a higher level of membership, the price per movie is even
lower.
5) After you watch your DVD, place it in the enclosed protective
sleeve and slip it in the enclosed postage-paid return envelope.
Drop it in any USPS mail box.
You don't even have to pay for shipping with CleanFilms.
A postage-paid return envelope is enclosed with every rental you
receive. Just lick it, stick it and drop it off!
